I put together a quick video for you guys explaining Porgy fishing and a little bit about a fisherman's life. All the while learning filming and editing techniques. I've been busy getting all my ducks in a row when it comes to running a photography business as I would love to continue this as my career. So while I haven't been active on social media posting I've been extremely busy getting the licenses and starting the business. That and figuring out how to run it! The photography of Hampton Bays resident Matthew Raynor will be on view in an exhibition at the Southampton Cultural Center opening Saturday, December 5. Raynor, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a diving accident in April 2019 that left him paralyzed from the chest down, will be displaying a combination of pre-injury and post-injury art in the show.

Life Repurposed Through Photography

While the rest of the world learned to navigate a pandemic, Matthew Raynor was still learning how to adjust to life in a wheelchair. In 2019, the Hampton Bays native suffered a severe spinal injury, the result of a dive gone wrong, that left him paralyzed below his collarbone. 

For some, this would signify the end of all hope, but for Matt it was the chance to start over. Prior to his accident, Raynor was a fisherman with a photography hobby that captured powerful moments at sea—buoys, tempest-tossed boats, brewing weather and big waves—images both bold and beautiful. Since, it has transformed into art therapy, and a means to pay for his recovery.
